SEX AIDS

The importance of sex aids cannot be over emphasized. They play a helpful and useful role in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. For every one sexually satisfied man, either married or in a relationship, there are countless others who are lonely and sexually deprived. They may be single, in failing relationships, or unhappily married. Using a sex aid of one type or another is an excellent option for many couples in a relationship where the spark has died in the bedroom, but is still alive and kicking outside of it.
How do you go into one of these places such as 'Triple X', 'Adult Products', 'Erotica Plus', the 'Pleasure Chest' or the 'Tool Shed' without feeling vulnerable and exposed? How do you behave in such a place where your fantasies are just one page away, one video away, or one sex aid product away?
Peter, a 64-years-old disability pensioner, has been a diabetes sufferer for most of his life. For the last 20 years, he has been unable to achieve an erection strong enough to penetrate his wife's vagina. In fact, for the last eight years, there hasn't even been a stirring down below.
His visit to my surgery was partially successful. He was given the opportunity to discuss his pent up frustrations and was quite relieved once he had talked them through. Peter tried injection therapy. I concluded that after three visits and administering the maximum possible dose, that there would only be limited success for Peter with this kind of therapy. Although he achieved the best erection result he had had for the last eight years, it was still not sufficient for penetration. He was both excited and disappointed, as he was hoping that he would be one of the 95 per cent of successful candidates rather than one of the 5 per cent of failures.
Peter's problem was that of a severe venous leakage. The diabetes had probably attacked the nerve supply to the veins draining the penis and had left them more dilated and incapable of being closed, even with the high pressure produced by the injection treatment. The heightened blood flow to the penis and resultant pressure brought on by the injection therapy was not enough to cause closure of the venous outflow. The result after injection was an inadequate erection. An operation was not an option as he was very concerned about the possibility of a negative outcome.
I decided to try one more approach. I placed a lasso-type penile ring around the base of his penis. It is an aide used in men whose problem is due to significant venous leakage. It was slowly tightened over several minutes. The tightening put pressure on the veins, obstructing their outflow. It was still not so tight that it would affect the arteries and their inflow. At one point during the tightening process, the situation had become maximised, that is, the outflow had been blocked, yet the inflow was still receiving a trickle. He had achieved an erection strong enough for penetration.
Peter was overjoyed. It was the strongest erection he had had for 20 years! It brought tears to his eyes, but I had one problem. I had brought this product from overseas and the clinic had no penile rings that Peter could buy. I had to send him to a sex aid shop in order to purchase one for himself.
He looked at me blushing with embarrassment. I’ve never been into one of those places', he said. 'I don't even know where to find one. And what's more, how am I going to justify to anyone why I'm in there?'
'Peter', I said to him, look in the yellow pages under "Adult Products". I'm sure there will be a place in your locality. And don't be embarrassed going there. If anyone asks you what you're doing there, just tell them you're there under doctor's orders.'
Penile rings are not the only reason I send my patients to sex shops. There are often a number of beneficial reasons to send a patient such as Peter there. Once a man or a couple has been to a sex aid store, they will often find a reason to go back for a second visit. There are a variety of useful products available in these stores.
