- Indications for Use.
Trazodone Hcl is taken for curing severe depressive conditions, which are not caused by use of alcohol, other medications or serious stress, as well as can be used for singular cases of treatment of people with depressions in elderly age and with organic illnesses of central nervous system.
- Action
The medication is an effective anti-depressant, used for treatment of severe conditions of depression.
The medication has the ability to cancel both somatic (headache, heartbeat, pain in muscles, desudation, polyuria) and psychic manifestations of anxiety (irritability, affective tension, polyuria, desudation). The medication is effective for improving sleeping depth and duration of sleep, especially for patients with depressive states, and has the ability to restore the physiologic structure. The medication does not cause addiction and is able to remove comditions of restless depression and sleeping disturbaces. The medication is favorable for restoration of potency and libido.
- Posology and Administration
The medication needs to be administered orally for treatment of adult patients with starting daily dose of 150, which should be divided in two intakes with 2/3 of the daily dose administered before bedtime in order to avoid dizziness and drowsiness. The rest of the dose should be taken in the morning or during the day in small doses. If necessary, it is allowed to decrease the daily dose as often as once in 3-4 days by 50mg until the desired performance is achieved.
For treatment of outpatients the maximal dose per day is 450mg, while inpatients can take up to 600mg per day.
For start of treatment of debilitated patients and elderly patients it is recommended to use 75mg dose, which can be slowly increased once in 3-4 days, but the dose should not exceed 300mg per day. For treatment of mild depressive conditions the medication should be used in the dose for supportive therapy of 150mg per day. If the depressive conditions are moderate or severe, then the dose should be 300mg per day.
Patients above the age of 60 years should use 1/3 or half of the general therapeutic dose. If the dose used for start of treatment shows inefficient effect, then it can be slowly increased to the desired effect.
The dose for start of treatment of children of age 6 to 18 years should be 1.5 to 2mg per 1 kilo og body mass, which should be divided into several intakes. The dose can be slowly increased up to 6mg per 1 kilo, if necessary.
When a patient has disorders of libido, it should be used in daily dose of 50mg. For treatment of impotency, when there is lowering of libido in women, the medication should be used in daily dose of 200mg, while in complex treatment the dose should not exceed 50mg.
The medication should not be used as a sleeping pill or in cases of anxiety. It is not recommended to discontinue use of medication abruptly.
- Counterindications
Periods of lactation and pregnancy, hypersensitivity to the medication, rhythm disturbance, early restoration period of myocardial infarction, tachycardia, severe disorders of functioning of kidney or liver.

Arterial hypotension, heart diseases, arterial pressure disorders, failure of liver or kidney, under 18 years of age.
Trazodone has the ability to enhance the effect from drinking alcohol. The medication should be taken with caution for treatment of people with heart diseases.

Interface with Other Medications
Inform your doctor about any medications, which you are already taking for treatment in order to avoid possible interfering.
It is not allowed to combine Trazodone with other medications without prescription of a doctor.
- Overdosing
Symptoms of getting overdosed include: vomiting, nausea, drowsiness, low arterial tension, dizziness, loss of coordination, pneocardiac reflex, attacks of epileptic form, respiratory standstill, worsening of side effects. The medication has the ability to cause long-lasting and painful penis erection, which can consequently cause impotency.
