3. Indications for Use.

The medication can be used for treatment of anxiety in neuroses or depressions, addiction to alcohol, psychotic diseases (such as manic-depressive psychotic conditions) and organic illnesses of central nervous system.
The medication is also used by general practitioners for treatment of diseases of duodenal ulcers, chronic pains in patients with oncologic diseases, pre-menstrual syndromes, itching of skin and chronic hives.

4. Action

Doxepin is effective for treatment of severe depressive conditions, which are not caused by using drugs, emotional loss or alcohol.
The medication takes a few weeks, before giving visible effect of treatment. If the effect of the medication is too strong and you feel it, consult with your doctor about possibly lowering the dose of therapy.

5. Posology and Administration

The medication should be administered individually. For treatment of patients with moderate manifestation of depressions the medication should be used in dose of 75mg per day for start of treatment. During further therapy the individual dose will be set depending on patient�s condition, and can vary from 75 to 100mg per day. It is recommended to gradually reduce the dose for treatment. In depressions and states of anxiety with severe manifestations the dose can be up to 300mg per day. For treatment of patients, whose disorders and minimally manifested, the effective dose can be as small as 25-50mg per day.
It is recommended to take Doxepin orally one or two times a day. It is not allowed to exceed single-shot dose of 150mg. For treatment of sleeping disorders it is recommended to take a bigger part of dose before going to sleep.
It is not allowed to smoke, as it can increase the cardio-toxic effect from the medication.
It is not allowed to drink, as alcohol or any other medications can cause drowsiness.

6. Counter indications

Period of pregnancy and lactation, glaucoma, hypersensitivity to Dopexin, tendency to retention of urination, childhood age below 12 years old.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Inform your doctor prior to starting treatment, if you previously had: alcohol dependence, medication allergy, asthma, disorder of blood system, split personality (illness of manic-depression), epilepsy, schizophrenia, increased size of prostate gland or stranguria, glaucoma, high arterial tension, cardio-vascular diseases, liver or kidneys diseases, intestinal tract disease, hyperactivity of thyroid gland.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed include: severe drowsiness, mental fog, fever, agitation and unrest, hallucinations, airflow obstruction, unusual tiredness, rhythm disturbance, weakness, dilated pupils, nausea, as well as: pale skin, low or high arterial tension, blurred vision, loss of control over urinary bladder, constipation, hallucinations or delirium, confusion of mental state, lowering of sexual function, pain in eyes, aglutition or speech difficulty, loss of consciousness, pain in eyes, loss of balance, jerking of limbs, stranguria, unsteady gait, insomnia, decelerated motion, increase size of breast in both men and women, hypersensitivity of skin to sun light, loss of hair, irritability, brown or red dots on skin, muscle jerking, noise or ringing in the ears, itching or rash of skin, pain in gums or teeth, edema of testis (in men), yellowing of skin or eyes.

10. Side Effects

Nausea, dry mouth, disorders of the sense of taste modalities, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, retention of urination, stomatitis, yellow sickness. High perspiration, lowering of the body mass, chilly sensation, feeling of flush, general weakness, dizziness, headache, noise in the ears, vision disorders, disorientation, drowsiness, hallucinations, disorder of arterial tension, convulsions, tachycardia. Low or high libido, increased size of lacteal glands in women, testis edema (in men). Cancellation syndrome and dependence.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication can be used during pregnancy only if the expected favor for mother is more significant than the potential risk of harming the fetus.
If the medication needs to be administered during the period of lactation, it is recommended to stop breast-feeding.

12. Driving

Dopexin affects concentration of attention, so it is necessary to be specially cautious during treatment with the medication, when performing works, which need alertness, such as vehicle driving and operating machinery.
