3. Indications for Use.

The medication is for treatment of diseases, caused by infections, which are sensitive to Azithromycin, such as infections of ENT-organs and upper respiratory passages, sinusitis (air cells� inflammation), angina, tonsillitis (glands and palatine tonsils inflammation), otitis media (middle ear cavity inflammation); infections of lower respiratory parts; scarlatina; atypical and bacterial pneumonias (such as lung fever), infections of skin and soft tissues, such as impetigo (superficial purulent pustular disease of crust on skin) and rose, postprimary infected disease of skin, such as dermatosis; gonorrhea and urethritis of non-gonorrhea origin (urethral inflammations) as well as cervicitis (neck of womb inflammation), infections of urogenital tracts; Lyme disease (infectios disease of borreliosis caused by Borrelia spirochete).

4. Action

Azithromycin is an antibacterial medication with pluripotential effect. I works by checking the propagation and growth of bacteria. If Azithromycin is used in high concentration, it will perform bactericidal action. Azithromycin affects intra-cellular and extra-cellular causative agents.

5. Posology and Administration

It is recommended to check sensitivity of microflora of a patient, which caused the illness of the patient, before starting to use Azithromycin for treatment. It is recommended to use the medication either 2 hours after meal or 1 hour before a meal. The medication should be taken one time per day.
Adult patients, which have infections of lower or upper parts of respiratory system or infections of soft tissues and skin should use Azithromycin in the dose of 0.5g for the first intake and on the second, third fifth days of treatment they should use 0.25g or a patient can take 0.5g once a day for a period of 3 days. The total course of treatment should not exceed 1.5g.
For treatment of acute urogenical infections (infections of urinary-genitor tracts) use medication in single-shot dose of 1g (take two 0.5g tablets).
For treatment of borreliosis (Lyme disease) for treatment of the first phase of illness (erythemamigrans) use the medication in dose of 1 g (2 0.5g tablets) on the first day of treatment and 0,5 г once a day from the 2-nd to the 5-th day of treatment (with total dose for the entire course of 3g).
The medication should be administered depending on the body weight. For treatment of children with mass of body over 10kg the medication should be used according to formulas: for first day of treatment use 10mg per 1 kilo of body weight, and 5mg per 1kilo for further 4 days of treatment. It is also possible to take medication for the course of three days with the dose of 10mg per 1 kilo per day. The total dose for course of treatment should not exceed 30mg per 1 kilo of mass of body.

6. Counterindications

It is counterindicated for treatment of children under age of 16 years and for patients with hypersensitivity to Azithromycin.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

It is necessary to administer Azithromycin with caution for treatment of patients with severe kidney and liver compressions. The medication should also be used with caution for treatment of patients, who in their medical history have shown allergic reactions in anamnesis.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Do not try to self-administer Azithromycin in combination with any other medications in order to avoid development of adverse side effects. Use medication, as indicated by your doctor.

9. Overdosing

Temporary loop of hearing, severe nausea, diarrhea, vomiting.

10. Side Effects

Stomach pain, flux, nausea. In rare cases: meteorism, flatulence, vomiting. Passing (transitory) activity gets increased of ferments of liver. In very rare cases there is a possibility of having skin rash.
Possible side effects also include headache, dizziness, anxiety, disturbance of sleep, neurosis.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Azithromycin should not be used during the period of pregnancy and lactation, unless the expected positive outcome is more significant that the risks for harming the fetus.

12. Driving

It is recommended to avoid potentially hazardous tasks during treatment, especially those, which need elevated concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reaction.
