3. Indications for Use.

   – urinary tract infections (chronic and acute pyelonephritis, urethritis, cystitis, epididymite, prostatitis);
   – infections of lower and upper parts of respiratory tracts (acute pneumonia, bronchitis, chronic bronchopneumonia aggravation);
   – gynecologic infections;
   – otitis media;
   – infections of soft tissues and skin;
   – chronic and acute osteomyelitis;
   – gonorrhea;
   – endometritis.

4. Action

Cephalexin has a bactericidal action and works as an antibiotic drug, which has antimicrobial pluripotential. The medication is active against both gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration and dosage should be defined individually, depending on the severity of illness, infection localization and proceeding, as well as individual sensitivity to causative agent. Cephalexin shouls be taken orally. Average dose for adult patients is 250-500mg, which should be taken every 6-12 hours. The daily dose can be increased if necessary to the level of 4-6grams. The course of treatment can be as long as 1-2 weeks. It is recommended to use Cephalexin for treatment of children in the form of suspension. For children, whose body weight is lower than 40kg, the dose should be around 50mg per 1 kilo, which should be taken 4 times a day. For treatment of infections with severe proceedings Cephalexin should be used in the dose of 100mg per 1 kilo of weight, with repetition factor of 6 times per day. The length of treatment should be minimum 10 days. It is recommended to introduce medication half an hour-1 hour before eating and with some amount of water.

Medication should be taken with caution by patients, who are hypersensitive to penicillins, as there is a chance of having allergic reactions. Patients with compromised functioning of liver and kidney should be treated with greater caution.
It is not allowed to drink alcohol in process of treatment with Cephalexin.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Other medications are not allowed for simultaneous intake with Cephalexin, unless your doctor orders you to do so.

9. Overdosing

In case of getting overdosed, there is a probability of having enhanced side effects.

10. Side Effects

Vomiting, nausea, dryness of mouth, changed peripheral blood picture (in some individual cases), loss of appetite, drowsiness, allergic skin reactions – rashes of skin, itching; dizziness, headache, hallucinations. There have been cases, when patients had hepatitis and progressions of yellow cholestatic disease.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

it is only allowed to take the medication in the periods of pregnancy and breast-feeding, when the expected favorable outcome for mother is more signification then the potential risk of harming the infant or the fetus.

It is recommended to be cautious, when driving vehicles or performing any other activities, which need precise concentration of attention or can be potentially hazardous, requiring speed of psychic and motor reactions.
