3. Indications for Use.

Avandia medication is a hypoglycemic preparation, which is developed for treating of type 2 sugar diabetes (insulin-independent diabetes). Avandia can be used for treatment , when a diet or exercising proved to be inefficient. It can also be combined with other medications for treatment, if your doctor orders you to do so.

4. Action

Avandia deflates the glucose content in blood, increases the fat tissue�s sensitivity, as well as sensitivity of liver tissues and skeletal muscles to insulin.

5. Posology and Administration

Avandia is an oral medication, which should be taken with or without a meal two times a day. Posology of the medication should be defined individually. The dose for a start should be 4mg per day, and after 6-8 weeks the dose can be increased to 8mg per day, if the previous dose proved to be inefficient. Elderly patients don�t need any additional dose correction.
In case if avandia is used in combination with insulin therapy, the dose for a start should be 4mg per day. If there is a need for a more intense glycemic control, the dose can be increased to 8 mg per day, but only after performing a clinical examination of a patient to evaluate the potential risks of development of side effects, which can be caused by retention of liquid in the body.

- hypersensitivity to the components of Avandia;
- type I sugar diabetes (insulin-dependent sugar diabetes; if there is no insulin Avandia will not be efficient;
- serious compromised functioning of liver;
- periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- ages of childhood and adolescence (under 18 years old) and the safety and efficiency of the medication have not yet being determined;

Avandia needs to be taken with precaution in case of erious failure of kidney or problems with heart functioning.

8. Interface with Other Medications

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed. There is only limited information about getting overdosed on Avandia. In clinical studies with volunteers involved, with taking a dose of up to 20mg in single-shot, good tolerance was noticed.
Treatment. If needed a symptomatic therapy is recommended.

10. Side Effects

Rare – peripheral edemas, headache, anemia, infections of upper respiratory tracts, minor increase of the body weight. In seldom cases – fluid lungs, progression of backward failure of heart, symptoms of compromised functioning of liver (rise of hepatic ferments).

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

There is no sufficient information about the use of Avandia in the periods of pregnancy and during breast-feeding. If you require Avandia treatment in the period of lactation, you should consider stopping breast-feeding.
