3. Indications for Use.

Bactrim is used for treatment of airway passage infections, such as chronic or acute bronchitis, lung abscess, multiple bronchiectasis, pneumonia, and empyema; for treatment of infections of urinary tract, such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelitis, prostatitis, chronic forms of pyelonephritis, gonococcal uretrithis. The medication is also applied for treatment of infections of intestinal tract, as well as other diseases, caused by infections. The medication is also effective in curing of septic fever disease, caused by bacteria, which are sensitive to Bactrim. The drug is highly efficient for treatment of gonorrhea.

4. Action

The action of drug is effective for treatment of pneumococci, streptococci, dysentery bacillus, colibacillus, typhoid organism, and Proteus. The action of the medication is jointed with the disorder of formation of microorganisms and the formation and growth conditions, which are required for the development of bacteria.

5. Posology and Administration

The medication should be taken orally. Children older than 12 years of age and adults should take 2 tablets twice a day in the morning and in the evening following a meal. In serious cases of diseases 3 tablets can be taken 2 times a day. In case of treatment of chronic infections it is advised to take one pill two times a day. Children at the age from 2 to 5 should be administered with 2 tablets two times a day. Children at age from 5 to 12 should take 4 tablets two times a day. The length of treatment course varies from 5 to 14 days depending on the severity of disease. Treatment of chronic infections is usually longer and depends on health condition of a patient.

6. Counterindications

The drug is contradicted for use in case of hypersensitivity to active ingredient Bactrim , in case of hematopoietic system diseases, problematic functioning of kindey or liver, in case of pregnancy. The drug is not advised for administration for small children and newly born kids.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Bactrim should be administered with caution in treatment of children at early age. It is necessary to monitor the blood condition during treatment.

8. Interface with Other Medications

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of serious overdosing include: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dizzy feelings, headaches, vision impairment; in some cases there is a possibility of development of urethral system full disability.
Chronic overdosage symptoms include blood formation suppression, due to lack of folic acid in blood.

10. Side Effects

Possible side effects include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, reactions of allergies, possibility of nephropathies, leucopenia and some other kinds of blood composition disturbances.
The medication should be taken under medical supervision.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not advised to use the medication in the process of pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester and during breast-feeding.
