3. Indications for Use.
Can be used for treatment of seasonal and all-year-round allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, chronic idiopathic hives, allergic conjunctivitis, itching dermatoses (chronic exzemas, contact allergic dermatitis), allergy reactions of bites of insects, pseudo-allergic reactions of liberators of histamine, auxiliary bronchial asthma, angioneurotic edema.
4. Action
The medication has the effect of preventing the progression od allergic reactions, by soothing the course of reactions. Claritin has the effect of anti-itching, anti-allergic, anti-exudative medication. It prevents the progression of tissues� edema and lowers the penetrability of the capillary tubes, as well as it reduces spasms of smooth muscles. The first anti-allergic effect becomes visible after 30 minutes of intake and the maximum effect is reached in 8-12 hours after intake. The effect from medication will last for 24 hours. The medication does not have any affect on the central nervous system and does not cause addiction (because it does not penetrate through the hematoencephalic barrier).
5. Posology and Administration
The medication should be taken orally with or without a meal. Children above the age of 12, adult and elderly patients should take 1 tablet of 10mg or 2 tea spoons of syrup of 10mg one time a day.
Patients, who suffer from kidney or liver dysfunction should start their treatment with taking the same dose, but once in two sdays.
Children from 2 years to 12 years old it is recommended to define the dose of Claritin depending on the body mass:
- if the weight of body is lower than 30 kg take half a tablet 5 mg or 1 tea spoon of syrup (5ml) one time a day;
- if the weight of body is 30 kg or more take 1 tablet of 10 mg or 2 tea spoons (10 ml) of syrup one time a day.
Take only as much as your doctor prescribed you, and do not take a double dose.
6. Counterindications
Hypersensitivity or intolerance of components of the medication and its active ingredients, childhood age under 2 years old, period of lactation.
Be cautious, when taking the medication during pregnancy, or if you suffer from failure of kidney or liver.
7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
Patients with problematic functioning of liver or kidney are advised to take the medication in the same dose as other patients, bu every other day, as well as it is advised to use the medication cautiously for patients, who have different kinds of allergies, such as lactose-intolerance. Be cautious, when taking the medication, if you suffer from such illnesses as glaucoma, diseases of liver or kidney, if you have illness of prostate gland (in males), if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
8. Interface with Other Medications
To avoid the risk of having undesired outcome of simultaneous intake of Claritin with other medications, it is not recommended to self-administer Claritin in combination with other medications without prior consultation with your doctor.
9. Overdosing
Signs of getting overdosaged: dry mouth, throat, nose; instability in feet or clumsiness; flushes; attacks; panting; hallucinations; serious dr4owsiness; interrupted sleep; delirious or faintness states; as well as unusual bruises or bleedings, arrhythmia or tachycardia, fever and pharyngitis, unusual weakness or tiredness, increase of weight as a result of enhanced appetite, drowsiness, dizziness, unusual exaltation, irritability or restlessness, nervousness, nightmares, rashes on skin, upset stomach and stomach pains, noise or ringing in the ears, photoallergy (skin reactions and rashes), high perspiration, painful urination or stangguria, thickening of excretions from bronchi, vision changes, mental confusion, serious tachycardia, loss of appetite.
10. Side Effects
Delirium, disorientation in space and time, inattention, impairment of short-term memory.
Constipation, dryness of mouth, stanguria (particularly in men, who have increased size of prostate gland), blurred vision, high body temperature, combined with low perspiration, erectile dysfunctions, in glaucoma impairment of state, snoring, apnea attacks while sleeping, retention of urine.
It is recommended to avoid taking alcoholic beverages in the process of treatment in order to avoid possible complications. It is recommended to use sun-screen or other sun protection to avoid getting sun-tan. If you have dry mouth, use sugar �free ice-cream and chewing gum and apply a substitute for saliva.
11. Pregnancy and Lactation
It is allowed to use the medication during pregnancy only in case of severe necessity, as there is no information about safety and efficiency of use. Stop breast-feeding during treatment, as the medication is excreted into breast-milk.
12. Driving
Do not perform vehicle driving or any other activities, which need alertness, until you figure out your individual response to the medication. And in any case during treatment it is advised to be cautious when driving automobiles or performing potentially hazardous activities, which need speed psychomotor reactions and concentration.
