Tolterodine Tartrate

Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of bladder hyperactivity or instability (hyperreflexia), which is aggravated by imperative, sharp, frequent urination feelings, aggravation of urinary and/or urination incontinence.

Action

Tolterodine Tartrate works by reducing the function of contraction of bladder, thus lowering the flow of saliva. It causes incomplete emptying of bladder, lowers the muscle pain on the walls of bladder and increases the number of residual urine.

Posology and Administration

Tolterodine Tartrate is designed for oral administration, which should be defined by individual condition of each patient.
The medication is made for oral administration in the dose of 2mg taken two times a day. In case of insufficient liver or kidney functioning, as well as in case of development of negative side effects, the dose needs to be lowered to the level of 1mg two times per day. The length of treatment course should last for 3-6 months. Then there should be medical testing made in order to define the need for further treatment.

Counterindications

n case of blocking of intestinal tract, insufficient functioning of liver or kidney, serious obstruction of the outflow of urine from tracts with the risk of retention of urination, impaired functioning of peripheral nerves, caused by different reasons, irreducible hernia, child ages (efficiency and safety of this medication has not yet been defined for children).

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

It is recommended to reduce imperative urination feelings and organic reasons for frequent urination, before starting the therapy.
Tolterodine Tartrate should not be used for treatment of women, who are in reproductive age and those who do not use sufficient contraceptive methods. Consultation of a dentist is advised, if feeling dryness of mouth cavity for a period of more than two weeks.

Interface with Other Medications

It is strongly not advised to use Tolterodine Tartrate in combination with any other medication without an order of a doctor. If you need to combine some medications with it, consult your doctor.

Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: frantic excitement, hallucinations, convulsions, distress of respiratory system, tachycardia, dilatation of pupils, weakened ability to distinguish small details of visible objects at a short distance, urination retention, tenesmus.

Side Effects

Tolterodine Tartrate has the ability to cause different side effects: such as dryness of throat and mouth, constipation, increase of weight, vomiting, nausea, headaches, decrease of appetite, dizziness, gastritis attacks, drowsiness, weakness, disorder of vision, tiredness, flatulence, nervousness, chest pain, dryness of skin, increase of body mass, bronchitis, retention of urine, flushes, mental fog, allergy reactions, angiodema, allergic shock, tachycardia, peripheral edemas, heartbeating, hallucinating.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Tolterodine Tartrate is not allowed for use during pregnancy. And it is recommended to refure from breast-feeding during treatment with Tolterodine Tartrate because of the possibility to negatively influence the infant.

Driving

Tolterodine Tartrate has the ability to negatively influence the concentration of attention on the patients, who are treated with it. Therefore, operation of vehicles is not recommended.
