3. Indications for Application

Used for treatment of women with urethritis and trichomonas vaginitis, men with trichomonas urethritis. Also can be used for treatment of amebic dysentery and lambliosis, and anaerobic infections, caused microorganisms, which are sensitive to the medication. Metronidazole can be used in combined treatment for curing of serious mixed infections. The medication is effective for prevention of post-surgical interventions, which caused complications of infections (particularly after operations on abdominal cavity and organs of urinary tract). In clinics the medication is sometimes used for treatment of gastric ulcers, attack stage of disease of peptic ulcers, attack phase of chronic gastritis and other diseases, including chronic alcoholism.

4. Performance

Metronodazole can be used for curing of severe infectious conditions caused by animalcular agents or bacteria. The medication is not effective for treatment of flu or cold in the head.

5. Mode of Administration

Metronidazole should be administered orally.
For treatment of amebiasis in adults use Metronidazole for a period of 7 days in daily dose of 1.5g, which should be divided into 3 intakes, and for treatment of children use daily dose of 30-40mg per 1 kilo of body weight, which should be split in three intakes.
For treatment of lambiosis the medication should be used for 5 days. In treatment of adult patients use 750-100mg per day, for children of 10-15 years use 500mg per day, for children of 5-10 years use 375mg per day, for children from 2 to 5 years use 250mg per day. The medication should be administered 2-3 times daily.
For treatment of women with trichomonas (vaginitis and urethritis) the medication should be used in single-shot dose of 2g. It can be taken aso for long-term treatment for 10 days � use 250mg (1 tablet) taken twice a day. While medication should be taken orally, it is also recommended to use suppositories in the evening or use additionally vaginal tablets with 250mg of Metronidazole.
Both sexual partners should be treated simultaneously in order to avoid possibility of re-infection. It is recommended to repeat the course of treatment after 4-6 weeks after end of first course.
For treatment of men with trichomonas (urethritis) it is recommended to use Metronidazole in single-shot dose of 2g, or the medication can be used for 10 days in the dose of 250mg per day (1 tablet), which should be taken 2 times a day.
For treatment of non-specific vaginitis Metronidazole should be used in dose of 500mg taken two times a day for a period of 7 days.
For treatment of anaerobic infections Metronidazole should be used for treatment of adult patients in dose of 1-1.5g per day. For treatment of children use the medication in dose of 20-30mg per 1 kilo of body mass per day.
For treatment of elderly people Metronidazole should be used in the same doses as for treatment of children.

6. Contra Indications

Central nervous diseases of organic origin, hypersensitivity to the medication, failure kidney or liver functioning, diseases of blood, periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding. The medication is not recommended for intake in combination with alcoholic beverages.

7. It Should Be Taken with Reserve, if…

The medication should be taken cautiously for treatment of patient with hemodyscarsia, as well as patients with disorder of liver functioning (recommended to correct the dose for treatment). Administer the medication carefully for patients who are likely to have hydrops.

8. Interaction with Other Medicines

Inform you treating doctor about any medications, which you are taking to consult about the matter of combination of treatment.

9. Overtreatment

Symptoms of getting overdosed: vomiting, convulsions, loss of coordination, inflammatory impairment of cranial nerves and peripheral following a single-shot oral administration of 15 g of Metronidazole. Possibility of having nausea, and epileptic attacks.

10. Side Effects

Vomiting, nausea, stomach-ace, headaches, diarrhea, faintness, unpleasant metallic off-flavor, dizziness, loss of coordination, attacks of epilepsy, impairment of consciousness, elevated temperature, itching and rash of skin, dark color of urine, thrombophlebitis (can be caused by introduction intravenously), allergic reactions.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication is not recommended for intake during pregnancy or breast-feeding.

12. Driving

It is not recommended to get behind a wheel or perform alert activities, which require speed of reaction, before you find out your reaction to drug.
