3. Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of inflammatory-infectious illnesses, caused by those microorganisms, which are sensitive to the medication, such as: whooping cough, diphtheria, trachoma, legionnaires disease, brucelliasis, angina, otitis, scarlatina, sinusitis, pneumonia, cholecystitis, syphilis, gonorrhea. The medication cures inflammatory-infectious illnesses, caused by causative agents, such as staphylococcus). Can be used for treatment of common acne in outward application.

4. Action

Erythromycin is a medication which has an antibacterial action. It works bacteriostatically. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Erythromycin is much better tolerated than Penicillins. Microorganisms develop resistance to medication quickly.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration and dosage of the medication should be defined individually, depending on the severity of course of infection, localization and sensitivity of a patient to causative agent. For treatment of adult patients the first dose should be 400-600mg, followed by intake of 200-400mg once in 6 hours. In case of treatment of serious infections the daily dose can be up to 2-3g. For treatment of children under age of 3 months the medication should be used in dose of 20-40mg per 1kilo of body weight per day. Children of age from 4 months to 18 years should take 30-50mg per 1kilo per day. For administration in children the repetition factor is 4 times per day. The course of treatment varies from 5 days to 2 weeks. When the symptoms of disease go away, the medication should be used for 2 more days. The medication has to be taken 2-3 hours after a meal or 1 hour before a meal.
Solution can be applied for outward use on the parts of skin which are smear impaired.
Ointment can be used by putting it on the impaired area. And for treatment of eyes it should be used by putting it behind the lower lid. It is recommended to set doses and time of administration individually.
It is not recommended to use Erythromycin with milk or milk products.

Possible caution needed in case of: compromised functioning of liver, vomiting, nausea, epigastrium painsallergic reactions of skin.
Seldom cases include: allergic shock and cholestatic yellow disease.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Consult your doctor, if you need to combine Erythromycin with any other medications in order to make sure such parallel intake doesn�t cause adverse side effects.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed include: compromised functioning of liver up to acute failure of liver functioning, rare – disorder of hearing sensation.

10. Side Effects

Possible side effects include: nausea, compromised functioning of liver, epigastria pains, vomiting, allergic skin reactions. In very rare cases – allergic shock, cholestatic yellow illness.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

it is allowed to use Erythromycin only in case if the favorable outcome for mother is more significant than the possibility of harming the development of fetus. If there is a need to use the medication during lactation period, mother should make a decision about stopping of breast-feeding.
