- failure of kidney;
- edema syndrome of different origin (in chronic failure of heart in the second and third stages, portal hypertension, hepatic liver cirrhosis, and nephrotic syndrome);
- edema of brain;
- acute left ventricular failure (pulmonary edema, pseudoasthma);
- forced diuresis;
- arterial hypertension, as well as some forms of hypertension crisis.
- Action
Furosemide has the ability to cause enhancement of excretion of liquid from body. The medication is effective for redistribution inside the renal flow of blood. Furosemide has hypotensive effect and lowers the reactions of smooth muscles in the vessels.
- Posology and Administration
Posology and administration should be defined individually, depending on severity of disease and condition of a patient.
In case of treatment of light syndrome of edema the dose for start of therapy for adult patients should be from 20 to 80 mg for oral intake and 20-40mg for intravenous or intramuscular administration.
In case if edemas persist the dose for treatment should be increased to the by 20-40mg.
For treatment of children use starting dose of 2mg per 1 kilo of body weight.
If a patient has arterial hypertension, he should start treatment with the daily dose of 80mg, which should be divided in two intakes.
In case of treatment of pulmonary edema the medication should be used in dose of 40mg intravenously. If patient�s condition requires it, the dose of 20-40mg of Furosemide should then be injected again after 20 minutes following the first administration.
- Counterindications
Acute failure of kidney with anuria, hypersensitivity, severe failure of kidney, urethral stenosis, liver coma, elevation of central venous tension, acute myocardial infarction, low arterial tension, pancreatitis, diabetes, period of pregnancy (particularly during the first half of period can be used only in case of life-saving condition), period of lactation.
- Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
There is a need to constantly monitor the level of glucose in urine and blood for patients with diabetes or with low tolerance of glucose. Patients, with coma, who have prostate gland hypertrophy should constantly have monitoring of urine as there is a chance of development of acute retention of urine.

Side effects on cardio-vascular system: disorders of heart rate, arterial hypotension.

Side effects on sense organs: in individual situations – when taking high doses of Furosemide and kidneys� excretion function have an evidenced disorder there is a possibility of having paresthesia and disorders of vision and hearing.
Other side effects: weakness of muscles, dizziness, convulsions, in individual cases – allergic shock.
