Meloxicam
- Indications for Use.
Used for treatment of osteoarthritis pain syndrome, treatment of degenerative disease of joints, arthroses and symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Action
Meloxicam has pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic effect.
- Posology and Administration
Meloxicam should be used in daily dose of 7.5-15mg. No matter how the medication is used, the highest daily dose should not exceed 15mg. For treatment of patients who are at high risk of developing side effects, it is recommended to use the daily dose of 7.5 mg for treatment. For treatment of patients with hemodialysis, who have severe insufficiency of kidneys the highest allowed daily dose is 7.5mg. It is recommended to take medication with meal, without chewing and with some amount of water or any other liquid. If using rectal suppositories, they should be applied one time per day.
- Counterindications
— bleeding of different origins (including cerebrovascular bleedings and bleedings of gastrointestinal tract);
— ulcer disease of duodenal and stomach in stage of aggravation;
— severe insufficiency of kidneys (in the absence of hemodialysis);
— bronchial asthma, sensitive to aspirin;
— severe insufficiency of heart;
— severe insufficiency of liver;
— childhood age under 15 years;
— period of pregnancy;
— period of breast-feeding (lactation);
— hypersensitivity to the components of medication.
- Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
Meloxicam should be used with caution for treatment of patients with duodenal and ulcer diseases.
If using Meloxicam for treatment of elderly patients, it should be done with caution and with regular monitoring of functioning of kidneys. The same should be done for patients with liver cirrhosis, chronic insufficiency of heart, and patients in post-surgical condition.
If a patient is takin diuretic medication in combination with Meloxicam, he should take significant quantity of liquid.
The administration of Meloxicam should be stopped, if it causes allergic reactions, such as skin rash, itching, dread of light, hives and other.
Meloxicam has the ability to mask the infectious disease�s symptoms.

Side Effects
Possible side effects include vomiting, nausea, stomach pains, diarrhea, constipations, distension; rash, anemia, itch, headache, dizziness, edemas. In some cases – belch, temporary compromised functioning of liver, erosive-ulcer lesions of gastrointestinal tract, changes in blood count, including rate of leucocytes, evident or concealed gastrointestinal bleedings; blisters, stomatitis; ringing of the ears, increased arterial tension, drowsiness, afflux of blood to the skin, flushes, variation of kidney functioning, heartbeat.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Meloxicam is not recommended for use during pregnancy and period of breast-feeding (lactation). The medication should not be used also by women, who are planning to get pregnancy.
- Driving
Because Meloxicam can cause dizziness, headaches and drowsiness, it is not recommended for treatment of people, whose professional activities are potentially hazardous and require concentration of attention and alertness.
