3. Indications for Use.

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonic tuberculosis.

4. Action

The medication quickly enters in the contagious cells and bacterial cells and starts interrupting their structure. The action of medication becomes visible after one or two days of treatment.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration of medication should be done individually and under sever doctor�s control. Do not use the medication for self-administration in any case.
For treatment of adult patients the medication should be administered basing on the single-shot dose of 25mg per 1kg per day, or 50mg per 1kg taken 2-3 times per week. The medication should be taken orally after morning meal. Children should take 25mg per 1kg in the morning right after breakfast. The highest allowed dose for children is 1g per day.
Patients of elderly age (over 65 years old) should be treated in the same way as teenage patients.

6. Counterindications

Cataract, visual nerve nflammation, diabetes; inflammatory eye diseases; serious failure of kidney; pregnancy; podagra; period of lactation; children under the age of 13 years.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Dose of Ethambutol should be decreased for treatment of patients whi failure of kidney functioning, as the medication is accumulated in the body. Perform ophthalmological control before starting Ethambutol therapy and then regularly in the process of therapy (assess groungs of eyes, sharpness of vision, visual fields and sense of color). Also it is advised to perform regular check-up of kidney and liver functioning and do general blood analysis.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Combination of Ethambutol with other medications may cause undesirable side effects. Therefore it is advised to tell your treating doctor about the medications you are currently taking, or have taken in recent time. Advice with your doctor about the possibility to combine Ethambutol with other medications.

9. Overdosing

There is no information about getting overdosed on Ethambutol, but in such situation the side effects should be aggravated. Seek for urgent medical consultation, if you feel extremely bad in the process of therapy.

10. Side Effects

Nausea, acute pains of stomach, vomiting, dizziness, hallucinations, spatial disorientation, neuritis, visual nerve neuritis, aggravation of podagra attacks, urination disorder, leucopenia, allergic reactions.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication should be administered according to indications during pregnancy, taking into account that the favor for mother is more significant than possibility of harming the fetus.
Treatment should be stopped during breast-feeding.

12. Driving

It is not recommended to drive vehicles or operate serious machinery in the process of treatment with Ethambutol, as it causes some sort of vision disorder, which can come out with failure of sense of colors for green and red colors, as well as lowering of vision acuty.
