3. Indications for Use.

· osteoarthritis;

· primary dysmenorrhea.

4. Action

Naproxen has the anti-inflammatory effect and shown antipyretic, non-narcotic action.

5. Posology and Administration

Naproxen needs to be administered orally. Take whole tablets with some amount of liquid. The medication can be taken with a meal. For treatment of acute condition of disease it should be taken in dose of 0.5-0.75 g per one intake twice a day. The highest allowed daily dose is 1.75g. For supportive therapy the medication should be used in dose of 500mg, which should be taken two times a day (one in the morning and one in the evening before going to bed). For treatment of acute gout fit the first dose should be 825mg, and then once in 8 hours patient should take 275mg of the medication. For treatment of menstrual colic the first dose taken should be 500mg, and the consequent doses should be 275mg, which should be taken once in 6-7 hours for a period of 3-4 days. For treatment of migraine use 500mg dose. When using rectal suppositories for treatment, they should be applied before going to bed. The suppositories come in dose of 0.5g. If Naproxen needs to be applied in high doses, then it is recommended to combine intake of oral pills and suppositories. For treatment of children from age 1 to 5 years the medication should be taken daily in dose of 2.5-5mg per 1 kilo, which should be divided in one to three intakes. The length of treatment for children of this age should not be longer than 2 weeks. For treatment of juvenile arthritis in patients below 5 years of age the dose should be 10mg per 1 kilo per day. It is preferable to apply suspension for treatment of children.

6. Counterindications

  bronchial spasm fits caused by administration of NSAID in stage of anamnesis;
  ulcer disease of duodenal or stomach in the phase of aggravation;
  hypersensitivity to Naproxen;
  childhood age below 16 year old);
  pregnancy;
  hemorrhagic diathesis.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The medication should be used with additional care, when its administered to patients, who have compromised functioning of kidneys or liver, patients with arterial hypertension, gastrointestinal diseases, heart failure, patients in period right after serious surgical interventions.
 The medication should be administered with special care for treatment of elderly patients, particularly those, who have compromised functioning of kidneys.
When Naproxen is used for treatment, it has the ability to increase the bleeding time, which should be taken into consideration.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: heartburn, drowsiness, dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea.

10. Side Effects

Side effects on gastrointestinal tract: constipation, vomiting, nausea, discomfort sensation in the pit of the stomach, rare – stomach bleeding.
Side effects on sense organs and central nervous system: drowsiness, headache, rare – distortion of vision, hearing disorders.
Allergic reactions and immunopathological reactions: hives, skin rash, Quincke’s disease; rare – thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication should be used with caution for treatment of pregnant women, especially during the first and third trimester of pregnancy, and during the period of lactation.
The medication has the ability to excrete into breast milk in small amount by penetrating through the placental barrier.

12. Driving

If a patient develops such side effects, as sizziness, drowsiness, weakness, vision disorder, he should not be allowed to drive vehicles or perform any other operations, which require alertness.
