- Indications for Use.
Nizoral is a medication, applied for prevention and treatment of mycotic illnesses, caused by microorganisms, which are sensitive to the medication:
– recurrent chronic vagina candidiasis, when local therapy proved to be inefficient;
– infections of mucous coats in the intestinal coat;
– serious damages of nails and skin;
– prevention of mycotic lesions in debilitated patients;
– constitutional mycotic illnesses.

- Posology and Administration
The medication should be used for treatment for as long as all symptoms disappear and then continued for another few days. When the treatment does not give effect after 4 days, it is recommended to verify diagnosis. In some cases there may be backsets, caused by incomplete curing of the disease.
Adults should use daily dose of 200mg. The length of treatment for dermatomycosis should be around 4 weeks, for treatment of chromophytosis � 10 days, for treatment of onychomycosis � half a year � 1 year (until there is mycological and clinical improvement), for treatment of candidiasis of skin and mouth cavity the treatment should be from 2 to 3 weeks. For treatment of constitutional mycotic illnesses the medication should be used for 1-2 weeks. If during some period of treatment with the regular dose there is no improvement of symptoms, it is possible to increase the dose to the level of 400mg.
For treatment of vaginal candidiasis the dose should be 400mg per day with the length of treatment of 5 days.
For treatment of children with mass of body from 15 to 30kg the medication should be used in the dose of 100mg per day; for treatment of children with mass of body above 30kg, use dose the same as for treatment of adult patients.
In order to prevent lesions of the mycotic in adult patients the medication should be used in dose of 400mg per day. For children use medication in dose of 4-8mg per 1 kilo of body weight in a day. The course length should be defined individually depending on clinical conditions of a patient.
Tablets of Nizoral should be taken with a meal.
Absorption of ketokonazole in enhanced by sour drinks.
- Counterindications
- hypersensitivity to medication or any of its components;
- severe disorders of the function of kidneys and liver;
- pregnancy or period of lactation.

- alcoholism,
- simultaneous administration of potentially hepatotoxic medications,
- hypochlorhydria,

- childhood age under 2 years old (as efficiency and safety of this medication for children have not been determined).
Administre tablets of Nizoral with caution for treatment of women in the age of 50 and over.
In the process of treatment with Nizoral it is necessary to constantly monitor functioning of kidneys and liver and check peripheral blood picture.

It is only allowed to use tablets of Nizoral during the periods of pregnancy and lactation, if the expected positive outcome for mother is more significant that possibility of harming the fetus or the baby.
