Used for treatment of type II sugar diabetes and as a part of combined therapy for treatment of type I sugar diabetes..
- Action
Acarbose is a medication, which has the ability to prevent carbohydrates� absorption. If Acarbose is used for a long period of time, the treatment will be accompanied with progression of accurate vascular atherosclerosis disease.

Posology and Administration
The medication should be taken with meal or before a meal.
For start of treatment use dose of 50mg, which should be taken 3 times a day. It is recommended to gradually increase the dose depending on individual tolerance of Acarbose with an interval of 4-8 weeks. For treatment of adults with body weight over 60kg the medication should be taken in dose of 300mg per day, which should be split in 3 intakes. The highest allowed daily dose is 600mg.
Effects from use of Acarbose varies depending on the dose. Smaller doses cause absorption and lamination of fewer carbohydrates in small intestine. It is not recommended to increase a dose by over 300mg per day.
Acarbose therapy should be performed in combination with monitoring of transaminases and glycated hemoglobin, especially during the first year of treatment. Monitoring should be done once per season during the first year and occasionally in future treatment.
- Counterindications
Diabetic ketoacidosis, hypersensitivity, hepatic cirrhosis; increased size of abdominal hernia, chronic and acute inflammatory bowel diseases, obstruction of bowels (either partial obstruction, or inclination to it), aggravated with absorption and digestive upsets, ulcer colitis, intestinal pathology combined with elevated production of gases, stercoral ulcers and strictures and stercoral ulcers, periods of pregnancy and lactation, chronic failure of kidney.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
Be cautious, if you have traumas, fever, interventions of surgical character, infections, in periods before and after surgery, for treatment of children under the age of 18 years caution is needed, as efficiency and safety of use of the medication has not been proved yet.
It is required to observe a strict diet during treatment. If food and drinks with big content of carbohydrates and cane sugar are used during treatment, it can cause development of peptic disorder.
