3. Indications for Use.

Imipramine is applied for treatment of different depressive conditions, as well as depressions in elderly patients, which are caused by changes in sexual activity, depressions combined with some retardation (slower rates of speech and thoughts), neuroses and depression conditions in psychopaties, alcoholic depressions and other.
Can be also used for treatment of children who suffer from night bedwetting.

4. Action

Imipramine has a nature of antidepressant, which has a stimulating effect.
The medication is effective for improvement of mood, lowering of melancholy, lowering of retardation of motions, onset of vigor, it enhances the overall body tonus and psychic tonus. It has positive effect in treatment of children, who suffer from bedwetting against fright (is not effective for treatment of diseases, related to cold).

5. Posology and Administration

The medication should be taken by adults 3-4 times a day orally in dose of 25-50mg.
During the period of 10 days to 2 weeks, the dose of medication should be slowly increased to reach the level of 150-250mg per day. As soon as treatment gives desired clinical performance, the dose should be decreased to reach the supporting daily dose of 50-150mg. For treatment of light depressive conditions, the dose should be 75-150mg per day. The supporting dose for treatment of such conditions is 25-50mg per day.
Maximaal allowed dose for oral intake for treatment for out-patient adults is up to 200mg per day. For hospital treatment it is allowed to use up to 300mg per day. For treatment of elderly patients the daily dose should not exceed 100mg. The same dose applies for treatment of children.      
For treatment of children under the age of 6 years it is recommended to use the medication orally. For treatment of children up to the age of 12, the medication should be introduced intramuscullarly.                                                                                                                                  In treatment of children of age from 6 to 12, if the medication is administered orally, use the dose of 10-30mg per day, which should be split in two intakes. For treatment of children of age above 12 years use dose of 25-50mg per day, dividing it in several doses. When defining the dose for this age groups, take into account, how well the medication is tolerated and increase the dose slowly. Regime for therapeutic treatment should be established individually.  For treatment of nocturnal bedwetting, the treatment should depend on age of a patient with a dose varying from 5 to 75 mg, which should be taken before sleep.                                                                                                                                                       Imipramine Hydrochloride is prescribed for treatment of children�s nocturnal bedwetting.
For treatment of elderly people the regimen should be defined individually and such patients should be treated under control of a doctor.                                                                                                           

6. Counterindications

Ischemic disease of heart, hypersensitivity, tachycardia, failures of kidney or liver, stagnant failure of heart failure, probability of having convulsions, early period following infarction, schizophrenia, glaucoma, epilepsy, prostate gland adenoma, atony of urinary bladder, age of children under 2 years old, period of pregnancy.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The medication should be administered with caution in treatment of people with low threshold for convulsions, for treatment of patients with severe arterial tension disorders, patients with serious kidney or liver diseases, posology correction is needed for treatment of patients with diabetes.
It is not allowed to drink alcohol during treatment.
For treatment of patients with inclination to suicide, there is a need to have medical control at the beginning of treatment, as well as when treating pregnant women and children under the age of 6.

8. Interface with Other Medications

There is a high probability of development of adverse side effects, if the medication is taken in combination with other drugs. Imipramine Hydrochloride treatment should not be combined with any other medications without doctor�s order.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed include: ataxia, dizziness, convulsions, agitation, stupor, pupil dilatation, coma, tachycardia, arterial hypotension, arrhythmia,high tension of veins, which can be life-threatening, suppression of respiration, vomiting, bluishness of some parts of outer body cover, fever.

10. Side Effects

Disorder of coordination, headaches, disorders of sleep, dizziness, agitation, convulsions, hallucinations, disorders of speech, complete emotional and physical relaxation, tremors (more often in head and limbs), dryness of mouth, retention of urination, constipation, lowering of libido, loss of arterial tension that can be observed in situation, when a patient rises from sitting or horizontal position, indistinctness of vision, impotency, increased size of lacteal glands, growth of the body mass, loss of hair, sensitivity to ultraviolet, high perspiration, fever.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Imipramine is not recommended for administration during the first trimester of pregnancy. In future periods of pregnancy it can be used only in case of severe necessity and with doctor�s control. The medication is not advised for use in the period of lactation. If there is need for treatment, breast-feeding should be stopped.

12. Driving

Avoid driving automobiles and performing potentially hazardous activities during the beginning period of treatment.
