3. Indications for Use.

The medication should be used for treatment of adult patients and adolescents with inflammatory infectious illnesses of lower and upper respiratory tracts, caused by microorganisms, which are sensitive to the medication (such diseases as pharyngitis, pneumonia,tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, acute sinusitis, worsening of chronic disease of pneumonia (particularly in people who abuse alcohol, users of tobacco and in patients above 65 years of age).

4. Action

Cefpodoxime is a drug of antibiotic semisynthetic group, which has bactericidal effect. Cefpodoxime has effect against gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. This medication is a pluripotential.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration and dosage of the medication should be defined individually. The medication is recommended for oral intake two times a day with food. Interval between intakes should be around 12 hours. The average daily dose is 200mg. For treatment of tonsillitis and pharyngitis the length of treatment course should be from one week to 10 days with dose of 400mg. For treatment of aggravations of bronchitis and pneumonia take the medication for 10 days to 2 weeks. In case of treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea use the medication one time a day in dose of 200mg. For treatment of infections of soft tissues and skin take 800mg per day for 1-2 weeks. For treatment of children from age of 5 months to 12 years the maximal allowed dose is 400mg per day. For treatment of pharyngitis ad tonsillitis use 10mg per 1kilo of weight, which should be taken in two intakes. Highest allowed daily dose is 200mg.

6. Counterindications

Inflammatory chronic disease of bowel, hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime, failure of kidney. Periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Allergic reactions: itching of skin, rasher, hives, fiver, angioedema, allergic reaction of shock. Side effects on nervous system: headaches, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, undue fatigability, “nightmare” dreams. Side effects on urogenital system: disorders of menstrual cycle. Side effects on intestinal system: diarrhea, nausea, retention of stool, vomiting, gastritis, stomach pain, dysbacteriosis (growth of Clostridium difficile), abdominal distension, salivation, lowering of appetite. Side effects on respiratory system: coughing. Side effects on cardio-vascular system: lowering of arterial tension.
Other side effects: breast pain, disorder of formation of blood, weakness, excessive sweating.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Using the medication with other medicines is only allowed if your doctor orders you to do so. Inform your doctor about any medications, which you are currently taking.

9. Overdosing

In case of getting overdosed, there is a chance of serious manifestations of side effects.

10. Side Effects

Possible side effects include – nausea, diarrhea, stomach pains, vomiting. In rare cases – headaches, allergic reactions, compromised functioning of liver. Change of blood composition.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Medication is not allowed for use in the period of pregnancy and lactation.

12. Driving
