Active Substance

Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ

Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of arterial symptomatic hypertension, hypertonic disease, failure of heart, secondary hyperaldosteronism, diabetic nephropathy, Reynaud’s disease, as part of complex treatment of myocardial infarction, scleroderma, effort of angina, chronic failure of kidney.

Action

Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ works as a hypotensive substance, giving effect of vasodilation. It increases the floow of blood to kidney and coronary.

Posology and Administration

Treatment with Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ should start with taking dose of 5mg daily. If a patient is elderly (over 65 years old) or if he suffers from compromised functioning of kidney, the dose should be decreased to 2.5mg taken once a day. The highest daily dose allowed is 40mg. In some cases children should take the dose of 2.5mg per day.

Counterindications

Breast-feeding and pregnancy, compromised functioning of kidney as a result of transplantation. The medication is not advised for use in children.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Administer the medication with caution, if a patient has low-salt diet or is salt-free, as well as in patients with hemodialysis.

Interface with Other Medications

It is possible to use Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ in combination with other medication, if a doctor orders you to do so. Advise with your doctor before starting the treatment.

Overdosing

Serious decrease of arterial tension, problems with myocardial infarction, development of acute stroke.

Side Effects

Convulsions, ataxia, insomnia or drowsiness, CNS depression, dizziness fatigability, vision disorders, problems with taste and smell, ringing in the ears, blear-eyedness, conjunctivitis, hypotension, infarction of myocardial, acute stroke (as a result of hypotension), disorder of heart rhythm, problems with kidney functioning, rashes of skin, headaches, unproductive cough, compromised functioning of liver, constipation, dysfunction of kidney, infections of urinary tract and allergy reactions.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Administration of Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ in the period of pregnancy is only allowed in case if the expected positive effect for the mother exceed the possibility to harm the unborn baby.
If there is a necessity to perform administration of Enalapril Maleate-HCTZ in the period of breast-feeding, then it is advised to stop breast-feeding.
