- Indications for Use.
Used for treatment of inflammatory-infectious diseases, caused by bacteria, which are sensitive to the medication, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, cholecystitis, angina, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, endometritis, syphilis, whooping couth, gonorrhea, brucellosis, osteomyelitis, rickettsiosis, soft tissues, affected by purulent infections.
- Action
The medication is an anti-biotic with bacteriostatic and pluripotential action, which penetrates into a cell and works on the intra-cellular level of causative microorganisms.
- Posology and Administration
Administration and dosage of Doxycycline should be defined only on an individual basis, depending on the stage of illness and diagnosis. Treatment with Doxycycline should be done under medical control.
For treatment of adult patients the medication can be used orally of by drip-free intravenous injections in the dose of 200mg per day for the first day of treatment. For further treatment the medication should be used in the dose of 100-200mg per day, depending on each case as the disease�s severity. The medication should be taken 1-2 times per day. For treatment of children at age above 8 years and with weight of body higher than 50kg, the medication can be used daily by oral intake or intravenously in the dose of 4mg per 1 kilo of body mass for the first day of treatment and further administered in the dose of 2-4mg per 1kilo, depending on level of disease. If the medication is administered by means of drip-free intravenous injections, it should be used for a period of 1 hour for 100mg (with infusion concentration in solution of 0.5mg per ml).
For treatment of syphilitic and uncomplicated gonorrhea the medication should be used on the same regular schemes.
- Counterindications
Childhood age lower than 8 years, second part of pregnancy, porphyria, hypersensitivity to medication, severe failure of liver functioning, small number of leukocytes in blood.
- Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
It is necessary to perform regular analysis of blood picture and discharges of kidney and liver, if Doxycycline is used for long-term treatment.
It is not allowed to be exposed to direct UV-rays and sunlight in the process of treatment and at least 4-5 days after the end of treatment.
It is recommended to avoid drinking alcoholic beverages in the process of treatment.

- Overdosing

Possible side effects include vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, stomach pains, constipation, reactions of allergies on skin: skin rash and itching.
