Allopurinol

Indications for Use.

— disease of urinary stomes, with formation of urates, which contain calcoli;
— primary and secondary gout;
— primary and secondary hyperuricemy with different hemoblastoses (chronic myeloleucosis, acute leucosis, lymphosarcoma and other), psoriasis, at cytostatic and X-ray therapy of tumors.

Action

Allopurinol is used for lowering of the level of uric acid in blood and tissues of a patient.

Posology and Administration

it is recommended to determine the dosage and way of administration of the medication individually, depending on the overall analysis picture and general diagnosis of a patient.
Allopurinol has to be taken after meal orally.
For treatment of adult patients it is recommended to use the minimal therapeutic doe of 100mg per day, and up to maximal daily dose of 800mg per day.
For treatment of children under age of 6 years Allopurinol should be used daily with fose of 5mg per 1 kilo. For treatment of children from 6 to 10 years old use dose of 10mg per 1 kilo. The medication can be taken up to 3-4 times per day.
For treatment of patients with moderate compromised manifested functioning of kidneys the medication should be taken in maximal dose of 200mg.

Counterindications

— period of pregnancy;
— period of breast-feeding;
— manifested compromised functioning of kidneys or liver, azotemia;
— hypersensitivity to Allopurinol;
— idiopathic (primary) hemochromatosis.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

For treatment of children use Allopurinol only if the patient suffers from neo malign formations, such as leucosis, as well as in case of enzymatic disorders, such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome.

Interface with Other Medications

If the medication is taken simultaneously with any other drugs, it may cayse adverse side effects in serious manifestations, therefore, it is recommended to take medication only as prescribed by a doctor.

Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, lowering of daily amount of urine, dizziness.

Side Effects

Side effects, which are likely to appear include vomiting, nausea, symptoms of dysfunction of liver. It is also likely to develop signs, which suppress the formation of marrowy blood (such as fever, cold fit, throat and oral cavity pains, tiredness and overall weakness and other). In case of developing such conditions it is recommended to decrease the dose to ? or ? of the daily dose and periodically monitor blood picture and general condition of liver functioning.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Allopurinol is not used in the period of pregnancy. It is required to use effective contraception methods, when treated with Allopurinol in order to avoid pregnancy. It is recommended to stop breast-feeding during treatment, and it is not advised to use medication for treatment of children under age of 6 years.

Allopurinol does not impose any negative effect on the ability to drive vehicles, therefore driving is allowed during treatment.
