Ramipril

3. Indications for Use.

Is used for treatment of heart failure in chronic forms, hypertension of arteries, post-myocardial infarction conditions (especially if patient has suffered from failure of heart). It is used to prevent possibility of death in patients of post-myocardial infarction conditions.

4. Action

Ramipril works by lowering the level of arterial tension. It narrows down the vessels lumens, but does not actually significantly change the neral flow of blood. Ramipril actually in some cases can enhance the flow of blood.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration of this drug and dosages should be defined individually. In case of hypertension in arteries, the dose for start of treatment should be around 1.25 to 2.5mg taken once a day. Dose for supporting treatment should be around 2.5 to 5mg daily. The dose should be taken once a day and in case of necessity can be increased to 10mg, and even to 20mg in rare cases. In case of treatment of chronic failure of heart, the dose for start of treatment should be around 1.25mg per day, while the dose for supporting therapy can be up to 10mg per day. For patients, who have previously suffered from infarction of myocardia, the dose can be increased to the level of 5mg taken two times a day. The supporting dose can be from 2.5 to 5mg taken two times a day.

6. Counterindications

The drug is counter-indicated in case of hypersensitivity to any drug components, as well as in case of renal arteries diminution, post-renal transplantation conditions, aorta diminution, vague or controversial origin of heart disease, which has non-inflammatory nature, in case of having health problems which are showing the effect of increasing heart edemas, accumulation of liquid in the abdominal cavity, pregnancy, high level of arterial tension, period of breast-feeding, srious conditions of compromised functioning of renal, failure of liver functioning. It is not recommended to use Ramipril for treatment of children under 14 years old.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The therapy should be performed with special medical control on a regular basis. The doses should be defined individually for patients, who have concurrent problems with functioning of renal, and should be detected according to the indications of CK. All patients should undergo kidney functioning study prior to starting the treatment.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications, while going through treatment with Ramipril in order to avoid possible adverse effects of the drug interactions, which can increase the possibility and severity of side effects.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed are: strokes, infarction of miocardia, acute arterial hypotension, angioneurotic shock, disorders of thromboembolic origin.

10. Side Effects

In case of hypersensitivity to drug components and in case of significant or acute drop of arterial pressure, rhythm of heart disturbances, worse3ning of ischemic disease conditions of brain or heart, problems with improper functioning of kidney with constant progression to renal failure of acute stage (especially when constantly combining treatment with diuretic agents), proteinuria or albuminuria, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, disorders of neurologic character and others.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The drug is not allowed for use in the period of pregnancy. Breast-feeding should be stopped if therapy with Ramipril is required.

12. Driving

Ramipril should be taken with caution by patients, who are performing risky activities, which involve rapid concentration of attention and fast psychomotor response, such as operating of machinery or driving vehicles.
