Indicated for treatment of type 2 diabetes.

4. Action

Glimepiride medication works by stimulating pancreatic cells for the secretion and release of insulin, the medicine deflates the levels of sugar without making the levels of insulin higher.

5. Posology and Administration

Glimepiride medication should only be used for treatment of adult patients. The dose for start of treatment should 1-2 mg taken once a day, preferably during breakfast. Elderly people are advised to start with dose of 1mg per day. The supporting dose can be from 1 to 4 mg aken once a day. If regular dosage of 2mg per day has showed to be not working properly, it can be increased by additional 2mg per day with a bigger interval of 1-2 weeks of plasma glucose control. The biggest dose should bot exceed 8mg per day.

6. Counterindications

In case of hypersensitiveness to the ingredients of the medication, if having type 1 diabetes, in case of serious aggravation of the diabetes, in case of coma conditions or diabetic coma, if a patient is suffering from kidney or liver failure, in case of major traumas, burns, serious surgeries, obstruction of bowels, gastric emptying retention, health conditions, accompanied with malabsorption of food, progressive hypoglycemia (diseases caused by infections), leucopenia, periods of lactation and pregnancy.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Glimepiride is recommended for cautious administration if a patient suffers from syndromes of fever, insufficiency of adrenal, alcoholism, type two sugar diabetes in both slisding and unsteady courses, disease of thyroid gland.

8. Interface with Other Medications

The administration of the medication should be defined individually and should be performed under precise control of medical personnel, if it is necessary to combine the drug with other medications, then it is advised to seek doctor�s consultation.

9. Overdosing

In case of getting overdosed, possible side effects will be significantly enhanced.

10. Side Effects

Hunger manifestation, vomiting, nausea, drowsy and depressive feelings, feeling of apathy, sleeping impairment, acute anxiety, weakness, impairment of concentration ability, disorders of speech, vision impairment, shock of senses, dizzy feelings, shallow breathing, convulsions, increased tension of arteries, bradycardia, tachycardia, consciousness impairment, coma.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is forbidden to use Glimepiride in case of pregnancy and in the period of lactation. If the patient is awaiting for pregnancy, he should switch to insulin therapy in the soonest possible time. Breast-feeding should be discontinued during the treatment.

12. Driving

It is not advised to perform any activities which require fast psychomotor reactions and alertness during the process of treatment.
