3. Indications for Use.

4. Action

Losartan lowers the general peripheral vascular resistance (GPVR), lowers after-load and systemic tension of arteries. The medication lowers blood pressure in lesser circulation.

5. Posology and Administration

For treatment of arterial hypertension use medium daily dose of 50 mg with one time per day repetition factor.
The best effect from hypotensive therapy is seen after intake of Lozartan for 3-6 weeks.
If there is a need, the average daily dose can be increased to 100mg per day.
The starting dose for treatment of patients with failure of heart is 12.5mg per day taken as a single-shot. The dose is usually titrated with weekly interval (first week � 12.5mg per day, second weel 25mg per day, third week � 50mg per day). 50 mg per day is a medium-size supporting dose, which should be used, if a patient tolerates the medication well.
Losartan should be taken in smaller dozes for treatment of people, who have compromised functioning of liver.
Losartan can be taken with or without meal.

Use of Losartan is allowed in different cases, but only in case if the expected favorable outcome is more important than the possibility of developing side effects. 9. Overdosing

In case of getting overdosed, there is a chance of having serious lowering of tension, bradycardia, tachycardia and other side effects.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

There is no information about the use of Losartan in the period of pregnancy. Similar to Losartan medications, used during the second and third trimester of pregnancy can cause development of defects in fetus, and even lethal outcome for the unborn baby. For these reasons, intake of Losartan in case of emergence of pregnancy, should be stopped.
If there is a need to administer Losartan in the period of breast-feeding, the decision has to be made, either to stop breast-feeding, or discontinue Losartan treatment, which can be harmful for the mother.
