3. Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of bacterial infections, which are sensitive to the active ingredient of the medication, such as infections of ENT-organs (tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media), of upper air passages (pneumonia, bronchitis, abscess of lungs, empyema), infections of bile passages (cholecystitis, cholangitis), infections of intestinal tract (salmonellosis, dysentery, state of carriage of salmonella), infections of pelvic organs and genital-urinary system (cystitis, pylonephritis, urethritis, pyelitis, prostatitis, salpingitis, cervicitis, salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis, tubo-ovarian abscess, bacterial vaginitis, childbed fever, septic abortion, pelvic peritonitis, skin and soft tissue infections (impetigo, rose, abscess, post-primary infectious dermatoses, infections of wounds, phlegmon), soft chancre, osteomyelitis, gonorrhea, endocarditis, senses, meningitis, peritonitis, prevention of infections in surgery, post-surgical infections treatment.

4. Action

Amoxycillin has anti-bacterial performance of plurypotential hybrimycin, which is favorable for treatment of different kinds of infections.

5. Posology and Administration

The medication should be taken orally and the doses should be defined individually, varying for different severities of the illness, personal sensitivity to the causative agent, and localization of infection. Adult patients and children above 12 years of age should take 250mg of medication 3 times a day. In case of severe infection it is allowed to take 500mg 3 times a day, or up to 1g taken two times a day. Patients under the age of 12 should take suspension, drops or syrup orally 3 times day. The dose should be set depending on the age of a child: from 7 to 12 years old � 250mg, from 2 to 7 years old � 125mg, for children under the age of 2 and from the age of 9 months � 62.5mg. Children should be administered 3 intakes a day. The dose can be doubled for treatment of severe cases. If using the medication in oral intake for treatment of children from 9 months to 2 years, the medication should be taken in doses of 20-40mg per one kg per day, which should be divided in 3 intakes. Children from 2 to 12 years of age should take 50mg per 1kg per day in three intakes, depending of the severity of infection.

6. Counterindications

Infectios mononucleosis (including stages when morbilliform rash appears), hypersensitivity. The drug should be taken cautiously during pregnancy, and the period of lactation, in case of serious liver disease, intestinal tract diseases, chronic failure of kidney.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The medication should be taken with caution in case of intravenous administration for treatment of patients, having compromised functioning of liver. Stop treatment, in case if rash or hives appear.
Check clinical chart, as the medication should be used for treatment of patients, who are indicated with allergic reactions in the anamnesis.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Combined intake of Augmentin with other medications needs to be avoided.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: compromised functioning of intestinal tract and disturbance of balance of water-electrolytes in the body.

10. Side Effects

Side effects on digestive system: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, compromised functioning of liver.
Reactions of allegries: anaphylactic shock, cutaneous eruptions of different kinds, angioneurotic edema.
Other reactions: aggravation of superinfection, candidiasis.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication is not advised for intake in the period of pregnancy (particularly during the 1st trimester) and while breast-feeding.

12. Driving

Augmentin does not cause any negative effect on the performance of body when driving vehicles or operating machinery.
