3. Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of infections of ENT-organs (otitis media, sinusitis), lower breathing passages (pneumonia, chronic bronchitis), kidneys and urinary tracts (including acute pyelonephritis), soft tissues and skin (abscess, festered atheroma, furuncles), genitals (including urogenital chlamidial infection).

4. Action

Levofloxacin has anti-microbal action. The medication is pluripotential and active against majority of microorganisms.

5. Posology and Administration

The medication is indicated for oral intake with food or during intervals between eating. It should not be chewed and taken with a normal quantity of water. The medication can also be used intravenously, which should be done slowly. If the medication is used for treatment of sinusitis it should be taken orally in the daily dose of 500m. In treatment of chronic bronchitis aggravation it should be taken in daily dose of 250-500mg. For treatment of pneumonia the medication should be taken orally once or twice a day in the dose of 250-500mg (500mg -1.5g per day). For intravenous administration it should be used 1-2 times a day in dose of 500mg. For treatment of urinary tract infections the medication should be taken in oral dose 250mg per day and same dose is applied in case of intravenous introduction. For treatment of skin and soft tissue infections use medication orally in dose of 250-500mg up to two times a day or 500mg for intravenous intake two times a day. After using the medication intravenously it is recommended to switch to oral intake of the medication. If a patient has disease of kidney, it is better to decrease the dose depending on severity of problems with kidney: if CK is 20-50ml/min, then use 125-250 1-2 times per day; if 10-19 ml/min � use 125mg in 12-48 hours, if lower than 10ml/min use 125 once in 24-48 hours. The treatment can be from 7 to 10 days long, or as long as 2 weeks.

6. Counterindications

Epilepsy, hypersensitivity, affection of tendons, period of lactation and pregnancy, adolescence and childhood age lower than 18 years.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The medication should be used with caution for treatment of elderly patients (as there is high chance of associated nephratonia), and for patients who have affections of brain (severe trauma or insult). Treatment with Levofloxacin should be immediately stopped if any evidenced inflammations of tendon appear.

8. Interface with Other Medications

Consult your treating doctor about the possibility of combination of Levofloxacin treatment with any other medications.

9. Overdosing

The most important signs of getting overdosed on Levofloxacin include manifestation on the level of CNS (dizziness, confusion of consciousness and impairment of consciousness, attacks of ictal convulsions). Particularly, there may be evidenced disorders of intestinal (for example, nausea) and erosive mucus coatings impairments.

10. Side Effects

Side effects on alimentary system: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pains, decrease of appetite. Side effects on cardio-vascular system: vascular collapse, decrease of arterial tension, tachycardia. Side effects on the part of metabolism: high perspiration, increased appetite, and tremor. Side effects on the part of nervous system: dizziness, headache, weakness, insomnia, drowsiness, anxiety, hallucinations, fear, confusion of consciousness, disturbance of motor functioning, depression, convulsions. Side effects on the part of sense organs: disturbances of hearing, vision, smell, touch and gustation sensibility. Side effects on locomotor apparatus: weakness of muscles, pain in joints, spontaneous pain in muscles, tear and inflammation of tendons.
As well as compositional disorder, disturbance of urinary tract, different manifestations of allergic reactions of skin and allergic shock.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Use of the medication in the period of pregnancy is only allowed when the expected favor for mother is more significant than the potential risk of harming the fetus (as there are no studies of the efficiency and safety of use of the medication on women during pregnancy).
If a women is in the period of lactation and needs treatment with Levofloxacin, she should either stop breast-feeding, or cancel the treatment.

12. Driving

Patients should stay cautious, when treated with Levofloxacin, especially when driving vehicles or performing any activities, which require concentration of attention, can be potentially hazardous and need speed of psychomotor reaction.
