Dipyridamole

  1. Indications for Use.

-  circulation of brain disturbances;
-  treatment and prevention of thromboses;
-  post-surgical prevention of thrombembolia (clotting and occlusion of blood-vessel);
-  replacement of heart valve;
-  chronic insufficiency of cardiac.

  1. Action

Dipyridamole lowers accumulation of thrombocytes and works by preventing the formation of clots in blood vessels. Dipyridamole is also used for curing of other diseases of cardiovascular system as it can enlarge the coronary vessels.

  1. Posology and Administration

Dipyridamole should be administered one hour before eating. The medication can be taken separately, or as part of combined therapy with blood thinners for treatment and prevention of tromboses in the dose of 75mg taken from 3 to 6 times a day. The daily dose of 300-450mg can be increased to 600mg, if there is need for it. For treatment of heart failure Dipyridamole is used in dose of 25-50mg, which should be taken 3 times a day. In case of severity of heart failure, the treatment can start with higher doses of 75mg, which should be taken 3 times a day, and later in the treatment the dose should be reduced to 150-225mg per day. 5-10mg per 1 kg a day is the average dose for treatment of children.

  1. Counterindications

Acute infarction of myocardial, hypersensitivity to ingredients, expanded sclerosis of coronary artery, stenocardia in unstable form, hypotension of arteries, chronic cardiac insufficiency, serious hypertension of arteries, duodenal or gastric ulcers or bleedings, diathesis bleeding, serious arrhythmias, obstructive disease of lungs in chronic form, chronic renal insufficiency, insufficiency of hepatitis. Take the medication with precaution during the time of lactations and in children under 12 years old, as there has been no sufficient experience.
