3. Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of stenocardia, hypertension of arteries, Reynaud’s syndrome.

4. Action

Felodipine works by isolating the activation process and the process of contraction of the vessels of smooth muscles and myocardium. The medication has the ability to lower arterial tension.

5. Posology and Administration

Felodipine medication is made for oral intake, which should be used in the morning with or without a meal. Felodipine tablets need to be swallowed in whole, it is not allowed to chew or break tablets. Tablets should be taken with water, not other liquid. For treatment of arterial hypertension the medication should be taken in dose of 5mg one time a day. It is allowed to correct the dose with at least two weeks of interval. The dose for supporting treatment is 5-10mg per day. Elderly patients usually need correction of dose and should take half of regular dose (2.5mg per day). In case of treatment of stenocardia, use 5mg per day, with possible increase of dose to the level of 10mg per day. Maximal allowed dose is 20mg per day.

6. Counterindications

    — pregnancy, particularly early period;
    — arterial hypotension (arterial tension of mercury column lower than 90mm);
    — tachycardia;
    — cardiogenic and vascular shock, collapse;
    — evidenced failure of vascular system;
    — the 1st week of acute myocardial infarction (as well as during the following 1 month);
    — hypersensitivity.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Felodipine should be administered with caution. Sick sinus syndrome (evidenced bradycardia, tachycardia), chronic heart failure, lightly or moderately low arterial tension, aortal stenosis, mitral stenosis; acute myocardial infarction (and during 1 month after it), severe liver and/or kidney failure, elderly age, the age lesser than 18 years (efficiency and safety of the use are not established).

8. Interface with Other Medications

Felodipine should not be taken in combination with any other medications unless your doctor orders you to do so. In other cases there is a chance of development of various side effects.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: disturbance of heart-beating rhythms, dilatation of peripheral vessels in combination with evidenced decrease of arterial tension.

10. Side Effects

Side effects on cardiovascular system: low arterial tension, tachycardia, reddening of spots on covering skin of face.
Side effects on nervous system: dizziness, headache, fatigability, possibility of feeling weakness.
Reactions of allergies: itching of skin and skin rash.
Other side effects: retention of water in the area of ankle joint and possibility of having puffiness of gums.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Felodipine is not recommended for use during lactation period and in pregnancy.

12. Driving

Be careful when driving automobiles or performing any activities, which require precise concentration of attention and speed of psychic and motor reactions and can be potentially hazardous, during treatment with Felodipine.
