Cilostazol

Indications for Use.

Cilostazol is applied in medicine as a preventative measure for treatment of development of strokes. It can be used after operation of tube implantation into coronary vessels for prevention of strokes and lowering of thrombogenesis, as the medication gives needed opening.

Action

Cilostazol prohibits adherence of thrombocytes. The medication also has the effect of lowering the bleeding time, as it lowers the chances for initiation of clots.

Posology and Administration

Cilostazol should be used orally in the dose of 250mg, taken 2 times a day with or after a meal. Maximum allowed daily dose is 1g, which can only be taken in this dose for a short period of time. It is needed to reduce the dose for treatment of patients with chronic insufficiency of renal functioning. For treatment of hemodialysis use dose of 250-500mg for every intake with a long-term treatment.

Counterindications

Cilostazol is not recommended for use in bleeders, as well as patients, suffering from attacks of duodenal or gastric illnesses, liver diseases, hemorrhagic stroke of acute form (acute disorder of circulation in brain, caused by rupture of brain vessels), periods of breast-feeding and pregnancy.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

It is necessary to have thorough monitoring of blood and overall body condition, as well as monitoring of composition of blood, before starting treatment.
It is recommended to stop using Cilostazol at least two weeks before having any kind of surgery, including dental surgeries.
It has not been determined, if Cilostazol is safe and efficient for treatment of children and teenagers under the age of 18 years.

Consult your treating doctor and ask for his recommendations for possibility of use of Cilostazol in combination with any other medications.

Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed include: convulsions, hemorrhagic syndrome, perspiration, loss of coordination, panting, liver perversion, increase of bleeding time.

Side Effects

Side effects on the organs of blood formation: disorder of blood composition, bleedings. Side effects on alimentary system: nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, stomach pain, perversion of liver. Side effects on nervous system: headache, dizziness, asthenia, buzzing in ears. Allergic reactions: itching of skin, skin rash and hives.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Cilostazol is not recommended for use in the period of pregnancy and during lactation.
