Roxithromycin

Indications for Use.

Roxithromycin should be used for treatment of infections, sensitive to medication, such as infections of soft tissues and skin, infections of lower and upper respiratory tracts, infections of urinary and genital tracts (including infections, transmitted sexually, except for gonorrhea). Can as well be used for prevention of purulent inflammations of lining of brain (meningococcal meningitis) in people, who are contacting the diseased patients.

Action

The medication is a semisynthetic antibiotic, made for oral intake. It has bacteristatic action.

Posology and Administration

Before using the medication for treatment of a patient, it is necessary to check microflora, which caused the disease, for sensitivity of a patient to Roxithromycin.
Medication should be taken orally. For adults the dose should be 150mg taken two times a day (once in the morning and once in the evening). Medication should be taken with meal, or it is allowed to take daily dose in one intake before bed-time. Treatment can be from 5 to 12 days long in case of treatment of illnesses of ENT-organs and organs of respiratory tract, and from 2 to 2.5 months for treatment of chronic osteomyelitis. For treatment of mycoplasman pneumonia and pneumonia of Chlamidia trachomatis treatment should be as long as 2 weeks, while for treatment of Legionella pneumoni it should be 3 weeks. If used for treatment of patients with failure of liver, the daily dose should be 150mg.

Counterindications

   – hypersensitivity to active ingredient;
   – porphyria;
   – first trimester of pregnancy.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Take medication with caution for treatment of patients with failure of liver, and control functioning of liver in process of treatment. Dose correction is necessary for such patients.

Overdosing

It is likely that manifestations of side effects will be enhanced in case of getting overdosed.

Stomach pains, nausea, flux, vomiting, allergic reactions.

Pregnancy and Lactation

The medication is not recommended for use during the first trimester of pregnancy. Taking Roxithromycin in the second and third trimesters is only allowed in case if it can be life-saving, and should be administered only under strict medical control.

Driving

Be cautious when driving automobiles during treatment, as medication can cause dizziness.
