Indications for Use.

Is used for treatment of colitis ulcers of non-specific character, as well as a preventive measure and treating medicine for aggravation of such conditions;
For treatment of Cohn�s illness, both as a preventive measure and aggravation treatment.

Action

Mesalazine works as an anti-inflammatory medication.

Posology and Administration

The medication is prescribed for oral administration and pills should be taken in whole, without chewing them or crushing. It is advised to take the medication with a big quantity of liquid. Adults suffering from aggravation should take 1g pill four times a day. The supporting dose is 500mg, which should be taken 3 times a day. If using Mesalazine for treatment of colitis ulcers of non-specific nature, the dose should be 1g taken 4 times a day. In case of treatment of Cohn�s illness in children over 2 years old should take 20-30 mg per one kg of weight per day, and medication should be administered in several intakes. In case of severity of disease, the dose can be increased to 3-4 mg daily, but in this case the therapy should not last longer than 8 to 12 weeks. In case of rectal treatment, which is used in post-evacuation situations of straight intestine, for treatment of adults with sinistral colitis of ulcers, proctitis, 1 suppository should be used one or two times per day. In case of treatment with medicamentose microclyster, a suspension in dose of 60g should be taken once a day before going to bed.

Counterindications

Various diseases of blood, compromised evidenced kidney or liver functioning, aggravation stage of duodenal or gastric ulcers,. Disorder of clotting, child age of less than 2 years old, in case of hypersensitivity to active ingredient � Mesalazine.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

The drug should be taken carefully in case of problems with liver of kidney functioning. It is necessary to perform patient�s body monitoring before the beginning of treatment and on a monthly basis during the first 3 months of treatment. If a patient is suffering from impairment of respiration, especially in case of observance of asthmatic fits, thorough body control of the patient is required. It is allowed to use the medication for treatment of children younger than 2 years of age only if the expected positive effect exceeds the possibility of harming the child and the potential risk.

Interface with Other Medications

Consult your doctor, if it is allowed for you to combine Mesalazine treatment with intake of any other medications.

Overdosing

No cases of getting overdosed have yet been observed. Signs of getting overdosed might include the indicated side effects, such as weak and drowsy feelings, vomiting or nausea. If such symptoms are noticed, it is recommended to consult doctor immediately.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include the emergence of flu-like signs, constimations, vomiting, gases or diarrhea. Hypersensitivity reactions to the medication include such side effects as spasms in bronchi, elevated perspiration, hairloss.

Pregnancy and Lactation

It is possible to use Mesalazine during the first trimester of pregnancy only with strict indications. It is desired to adjust your personal course of treatment in order to stop it during the last 2-4 weeks of your pregnancy.
It is recommended to discontinue breast-feeding, if you require treatment with Mesalazine in the period of lactation.
