3. Indications for Use.

Used to prevent rejection of a graft (as part of combined therapy). Also used for treatment of chronic hepatitis, pernicious rheumatoid arthritis, systematic forms of lupus erythematosus, arteriitis of giant cells, multiple myositis, vulgaris pemphigus, idiopatic thrombocytopenic purpura, pyoderma gangrenosum, acquired hemolytic anemia.

4. Action

Azathioprine is a very serious medication, which should only be used for treatment of severe diseases. By immune system inhibition it helps prevent rejection of grapted organs, particularly in kidneys.

5. Posology and Administration

Administration and dosage for the medication should be adjusted in each personal case, depending on the clinical entity and on how sever the disease is. Also take into account the individual tolerance of medication and composition of therapy. In order to avoid reaction of graft rejection, the medication should be administered ina big dose of 5mg per one kilogram of weight per day, which should be taken in 2-3 intakes for a period of 1-2 months. Then a patient should be put on a supporting treatment with 4mg per 1 kilogram of weight per day, which should last for several years. For treatment of other cases take 1-2.5 mg per kg. The treatment with Azathioprine can be long-lasting.

Hypersensitivity to active ingredient, periods of pregnancy and lactation.

Weekly control of picture of peripheral blood is necessary during the 8 weeks when therapy is started. In further therapy the check up should be done on a monthly basis. Patients, who cave compromised liver or kidney functioning should take lower doses of Azathioprine.

Azathioprine is a medication, which should only be taken under control of a doctor. The doctor should prescribe the type and amount of medications, which can be combined with Azathioprine.

9. Overdosing

May cause disorders of intestinal tract, improper functionign of blood composition and formation.

10. Side Effects

Azathiprine has the ability to cause malign neo formations development, as well as it provokes vomiting, nausea nad diarrhea, stomach pains, compromised functioning of liver, reactions of allergies, exerts the effect of inhibitory formation of blood, causes itching of skin and weakness of muscles. 11. Pregnancy and Lactation
