Active Substance

Repaglinide

Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of sugar diabetes type II in combination with exercising and diet treatment and as part of a combined treatment (in case if other medications, combined with dieting and physical exercising proved to be ineffective).

Action

Repaglinide has a rapid action of deflating the level of glucose in blood, which is achieved by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic gland cells.

Posology and Administration

The medication should be administered orally 15-30 minutes before eating 3 times a day ad usual before main courses of meals. Posology should be defined individually. Recommended dose for start of treatment is 0.5mg. It is allowed to start increasing the dose not earlier than 1-2 weeks after you start taking the medication, provided that level of glycemia is monitored. Highest allowed daily dose is 16mg, with highest allowed single-shot dose of 4mg.

Counterindications

- Diabetes of type 1;
- Compromised functioning of kidney or liver;
- Diabetic coma;
- Hypersensitivity to medication;
- Planned operation.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Medication should be taken carefully by patients with disease of kidney. Repaglinide dose should be decreased and selected cautiously in treatment of patients with subnutrition or hyposthetic patients. It is recommended to refrain from alcohol intake during treatment.

Interface with Other Medications

If you need to use other medications simultaneously with Repaglinide treatment, consult your doctor regarding this matter.

Overdosing

Symptoms of getting overdosed: headaches, hypoglycemia (weakness, feeling tired, sense of hunger, elevated excitement, drowsiness, anxiety, restless sleep, worsening of attention concentration, nightmare dreams, the change of behavior, especially in case of alcoholic intoxication, vision and speech impairment, mental confusion, nausea, paleness, rapid heartbeat, cold perspiration, convulsions, coma, and other).

Side Effects

Allergic reactions (itching of skin, rashes, hives), low level of blood sugar, dyspepsia (pain in abdominal cavity, nausea, in very rare cases0 – constipation or diarrhea, vomiting); in individual cases – impairment of vision, compromised functioning of liver.

Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not recommended to use the medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Driving

When using Repaglinide for treatment, consult with your doctor about your ability to drive vehicles and operate hazardous machines.
