Generic Tricor is used for controlling high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It is used in combination with a diet low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Generic Tricor is a lipid-lowering agent. It lowers elevated blood triglyceride levels by making the liver produce fewer triglycerides and increasing the elimination of triglycerides from the blood stream.

Fenofibrate

Indications for Use.

Used for treatment of types 2a, four and fire of hyperlipidemia, as well as for treatment of types 2a and 3, when the dieting proved to be inefficient and if the dynamic study of the level of cholesterin in blood shows elevation or if there are concurrent factors of risk, such as hypertonic disease or ischemic disease of heart and well as aggravation of such diseases.

Action

Fenofibrate treatment lowers the general level of cholesterin and guves significant diuretic effect.

Posology and Administration

Fenofibrate medication should be administered orally for treatment of adult patients in the amount of 0.1g (100mg) two times per day prior to meal or while eating. It is better to use two capsules of 0.02g in breakfast time and 1 capsule of 0.01g in dinner time.

Counterindications

Compromised functioning of liver, such as biliary cirrhosis, severe failures of renal functioning, calculous cholecystitis,, alcoholism, breastfeeding or pregnancy periods, hypersensitivity to drug components.

Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Fenofibrate has to be administered with caution for treatment of patients with diabetes as it is necessary to avoid hypoglycemia (decrease of blood sugar levels). The performance of functioning of liver needs to be controlled in the process of treatment, as well as in patients who are contravention-prone.

Interface with Other Medications

Combination of Fenofibrate with other medicines may cause unpredictable negative effects. Overdosing

Side Effects

Gastroenteric upsets are possible (nausea, vomiting), skin rash, hives, pains in muscles, muscle weakness (more frequently in legs); increase of the body mass due to water retention in the body. After withdrawal of Fenofibrate such events usually disappear.
In a long-term use of Fenofibrate intrahepatic cholestasis may develop (biliary engorgement), and cholesiasis may be aggravated. In Fenofibrate use there were registered formation of stones in gall bladder and biliary tracts.

Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not allowed to used Fenofibrate in the period of pregnancy and if you require treatment in the period of lactation, it is recommended to discontinue breast-feeding.
